This dog was chewing on a treat when I took his reference photo. It makes him look as if he is smiling, even though I suspect he was wishing I’d go away and let him chew in peace.
There are many ways to plan a composition of a pet portrait when you’re trying to capture a mood. Here I was working from a normal colour photograph and wanted a fun but elegant portrait that draws attention to the warm eyes.
